It’s Not You It’s Me

Posted in Shoes with tags , , on September 30, 2009 by BEA'sBrideGuide

Well actually it was a girl on Forbes and my dog but I’m still going to have to break up with you. Sorry, UGGS, it’s over.  It started over six months ago when my puppy (rescue Pitt Bull and AMAZING) shredded one of my UGGs while I was out to diner. At the time I blamed it on the shoe’s likeness to his sherling lamb toy that had met a similar fate the day before.  But perhaps I was underestimating my dog.  Maybe he has better fashion foresight then I do.  Fastforward to the present and I see a college student walking by in what can only be describing as the lazy girl’s college uniform: UGGs, leggings, hoody.  And she loooks…horrible.  Lazy, disheveled, like she put zero effort into her outfit.  And then it hit me. I’m toasty in my car wearing suede riding boots that are tres comfortable and cute! No need to look lazy with so many great riding boot options out there. Like I said, it’s really not you it’s me, I’ve changed.

Maybe I’ll regret this come winter and snow but for now it’s over.

PS. Trying to shake your UGGs? Read the post on Chinese Laundry’s suede riding boots. They are AMAZING!

Today’s WISH: Wardrobe I Should Own – Catherine Malandrino

Catherine Malandrino Gramercy Jacket: $795

Catherine Malandrino Gramercy Jacket: $795

In the spirit of all things lace I give you Catherine Malandrino’s Gramercy Jacket.  I literally lust after this jacket.  The gorgeous draping, lace, and soft leather make this a purchase that is fully worth its price tag.  The unusual color is in keeping with the unexpected details.  This jacket puts normal leather motorcycle jackets to shame and ensures that you’ll stand out.

As always a less expensive option. However, if you want one splurge this season I would recommend saving up for the Gramercy Jacket (or maybe pray to the sale gods at shopbop.com).

New Season Same Boot

I try to bring you designer fashions for less. But sometimes I don’t even feel the need to provide you with the higher end option because the budget friendly version is that great.  Chinese Laundry suede riding boots are such an item.

Chinese Laundry Tahoe: $89.99 on sale

Chinese Laundry Tahoe: $89.99 on sale

My first Chinese Laundry purchase was last year, the Tahoe.  A suede below the knee riding boot which helped get me through my last New York winter. I opted for grey.  I debated the purchase for a few weeks, would it look as classy in person as it did online?  During my indecision my room mate bought the Tahoe, in grey.  Not only was it classy the boot was now living in my apartment three whole sizes larger than I could wear.  I had the Tahoe overnighted.

Chinese Laundry Tripin: $109

Chinese Laundry Tripin: $109

This year its the Tripin. The Tahoe’s taller, cooler big sister.  The same suede and snaps but this boot hits just above the knee. A few years ago I would have laughed out loud if you told me I would be in love with boots that hit (gasp) above the knee! I wore them today with Swiss Dot tights and felt like the coolest girl in the office.

Next year it may be the Trust Me.  Tripin’s twin sister in organic leather.

A Headbandless Gossip Girl? You might as well fire Dorota while you’re at it!

Jennifer Behr: $198

Jennifer Behr: $198

In October 2009 In Style Eric Daman dares to say that we will see a Blair sans headbands in the future.  Think again friend! Part of the reason I love Blair is because of her ridiculous headbands.  I didn’t blink an eye when a friend recently wore a headband with the world’s largest bow on it (did she think she was a Christmas present?). I used to have a headband hook up at Bendel’s. Literally, I had a sales person who would call me when they got the latest headband shipments, especially ones that had been featured on Gossip Girl.  I even started creating my own over the top headband concoctions.  It’s amazing how creative you can get living in NYC on a budget.

The kids may be going to college but that is no reason to throw their characters into complete identity crises.  So please Eric Daman leave Blair’s headbands alone. I won’t however argue with you if you decide to makeover Vanessa or Jenny.

Antique Silver Beading Beaded Waistcoat

Antique Silver Beading Beaded Waistcoat

I am a huge Gossip Girl fan.  Not just for the not-so teenage drama but for the amazing accessories, clothes, and shots of New York. However, last night’s episode was a bit of a miss.  What was going on with Blair’s way to tight braids? Or Serena’s Sotheby’s dress?  While I felt most of the outfits were misses last night I did fall in love with Serena’s Matthew Williamson Beaded Waistcoat.  I hope to see much more of the designer on the show!

Serena would approve of your budget friendly purchase.

Moschino Cheap and Chic: $242

Moschino Cheap and Chic: $242 (originally $605)

While watching one of the many trashy reality shows I tune into weekly one of the characters (actress?) said you can get away with wearing the cheapest staples as long as you are wearing expensive shoes.  I think she might have been onto something.  In any case your feet will certainly be more comfortable.  These Moschino Cheap and Chic velvet bow pumps are my sale picks of the day.

Today’s WISH: Wardrobe I Should Own – Jason Wu

I will credit First Lady Michelle Obama with introducing the world to Jason Wu. However I won’t go so far as to say she is the reason he is getting noticed today. His designs are a flawless mix of feminine and trendy. Pieces that will look current this season and next.  My favorite look from his Spring 2010 runway is this creme confection.  If I owned this dress I would come up with an excuse to wear it out daily. The strong shoulders are very right now but not so overpowering that they will become cartoonish when we’ve moved past the trend.  The white and black combination is also very of the moment and timeless all at once.

Black Halo: $390

Black Halo: $390

The asymmetrical shoulder of this Black Halo dress calls attention to

the shoulders just as the draping of the Jason Wu dress does.  Add a simple black

ribbon to the waist and you can achieve the black and white look for less.
